Dance has always been my happy place, something I naturally turn to when I want to reconnect with myself. Over time, it has helped me regulate my emotions, find balance, and express what words sometimes cannot.

Although I never had formal training growing up, I spent several years in Andhra Pradesh and developed a deep connection with its culture. I explored many dance styles along the way, but it was only later that I truly understood the depth of classical forms, the history, discipline, and meaning behind each movement. That was when I chose Kuchipudi more intentionally. It felt like an art form I could grow with through different phases of life.

When I moved to the United States, I was not sure I could continue this journey. But I was fortunate to find Srivani Akka. She understands both my love for dance and the realities of adult life, creating a space where I can pursue both.

Each class has been deeply enriching, not just in movement, but in understanding mudras, storytelling, and cultural depth. The discipline has also brought more structure and purpose into my life.

The community has been equally special. Dancing alongside people from different backgrounds has created a warm and supportive circle. One of my most meaningful moments was performing at Kaivalya’s annual day and seeing my parents well up with pride.

I feel incredibly grateful to continue growing in this beautiful art form.

My passion for dance started at a young age when I started learning Kuchipudi and continued to grow when I joined Kaivalya arts in 2021. I received individualized instruction and a deep understanding of the meaning of each dance I learned, allowing me to truly connect with and enjoy every dance piece that I learned. I performed at various venues throughout the city of Chicago and nearby suburbs to promote Indian classical art forms. During this time, I completed my Junior Certificate in Kuchipudi from Sampada and am now working on my rangapravesham (debut performance). I also started to volunteer within the school to prepare instructional materials and help with teaching as a student teacher. I enjoy learning and performing dance pieces with deep meanings that resonate with me. I hope the meanings from my dances are able to make a positive impact on those that watch. I am looking forward to performing more and continuing to further my Kuchipudi education for the rest of my high school years and after!
